  • Where is the race?

Races begin and end at the Muscatine High School, 2705 Cedar St. Muscatine Iowa. The start/finish line is in the front of the school, near the "M" window.

  • What time is the race?

Muskie Mile begins at 8:00 AM - 5K 8:30 AM

  • Where should I park?

The best place to park is the parking lot on Cedar St. As you enter the high school, take the first right and go up the parking ramp.

  • What is the course like?

The 1 mile is an out & back course around the perimeter of the school with a couple slight hills around the parking lots. The 5K is an out & back, mostly flat, around the front of the school, through the parking lot by the gym, down Bonnie Drive to Mulberry Avenue, down Mulberry. The turn-around is right after Wier St. You can find the 5K course map on the home page.

  • What is a Virtual Race?

It's a race that you complete on your own or with your family. You can run the original race route, or you can run where you want. Just make sure to pick a safe route, watch traffic and if you are a student, run with an adult. When you are finished running, snap a picture and send it in (daphne.donald@mcsdonline.org). You will be entered in a drawing for some cool prizes.

  • When is the Virtual race?

You can run any time before or on May 6, 2023.

  • Do I need to turn in my time from the Virtual Race?

It's optional, not required. We encourage you to time yourself and email your time (and a picture) to racefortheschools@mcsdonline.org. All times & pictures will be published on our race website.

  • Where does the money go that is raised?

Proceeds benefit Muscatine Schools. We have been able to purchase equipment for their students to use in PE class including; heart monitors, footballs, soccer balls, Hula Hoops, bowling pins, an ultimate scooter, Rogue Bands, and much more. We have also been able to help finance an ice skating trip for middle school students.

  • How do I register?

Registration Forms are available the Muscatine School Administration Building , the Muscatine Community Y and the registration tab on this webpage. AND at Get Me Registered: http://getmeregistered.com/RaceForTheSchools.

  • How much does it cost?

Adult Fees: The 5K is $22 and the Muskie Mile is $15. Muskie Challenge (both races) $25

Student Fees: The 5K is $12 and The Muskie Mile is $10. Muskie Challenge (both races) $14

  • Are Scholarships available for students?

Yes! There are scholarships available for Muscatine School Students. Contact Daphne 563-263-7223 or racefortheschools@mcsdonline.org.

  • Are the races timed?

Yes, the race will use chip timing. You do not need to turn in your bib or the chip at the end of the race.

  • Will there be awards?

YES! Muskie Mile Awards to: Top Male/Female Student Finishers & Top 3 Male/Female (students): AGES: 5 & under, 6-10, 11-14, 15-19. 5K Awards - Overall: Top Male/Female Finishers & Top 3 Male/Female: AGES: 5 & under, 6-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+ .Virtual Runners are not eligible for overall or age-group awards.

  • What is the Muskie Challenge?

The Muskie Challenge means that you run both races the Muskie Mile and the 5K. Everyone who completes the Muskie Challenge will receive a nice finisher’s medal. Adults & Virtual Runners are welcome to participate in the Muskie Challenge.

  • What is the MCSD School Challenge?

The MCSD school challenge is simply a race participation challenge. Students, parents, staff, and friends can fill in the name of their school, or the school they represent when they complete their registration. The Muscatine school with the greatest participation will receive a special traveling trophy and monetary award.

  • When is Packet Pickup? Where?

Packet Pickup is Friday, May 5 from 4:00 - 6:00 at the Muscatine Schools Administration Center, 2900 Mulberry Ave. Muscatine Iowa. AND Saturday, May 6th at the Muscatine High School, 2705 Cedar St. 6:30 - 7:30 am.

  • Can I run with my dog?

Yes, but only if your dog is well behaved and on a leash.

  • Can I run with a stroller?

Yes, but please use caution and be careful. There may be some rough spots on the road.

  • Can I run with my earbuds?

Running with earbuds is discouraged, due to safety. If you wear earbuds, please consider leaving one out or having the music at a low volume.

  • Will you mail my packet?

No, but you can have a friend pick up your packet or IF YOU ARE A STUDENT OR MCSD STAFF MEMBER we can send your packet to the school you attend in Muscatine.

  • Where can I find my results?

You can find race results on our website.

  • What size shirt should I order?

The shirts are soft style, ring spun cotton polyester blend. Standard adult and youth sizes.
